How Do Incoming Freshmen Receive a Stamps Scholarship?

The Stamps Scholarship is highly selective. Each year approximately 28 incoming freshmen, out of nearly 12,500 students who have been admitted through the Early Action Program are nominated for this prestigious, merit-based cost of attendance award.

The Scholarship Financial Award: Cost of Attendance

  • The Stamps Scholarship covers a student’s annual cost of attendance for up to four years of undergraduate study.
  • Cost of Attendance is based on estimated student budgets that include tuition/fees, housing, books/supplies and person/miscellaneous expenses assuming full-time attendance for two semesters, Fall and Winter.

Do freshmen need to apply to a specific U-M school or college?

No. The Stamps Scholarship is awarded to freshmen who have been accepted at LSA, Engineering, Stamps School of Art & Design, Nursing, Kinesiology, Ross School of Business, and Music, Theatre and Design.

Do students need to apply through the Early Action program?

Yes. For Early Action consideration, applications must be received by November 1. Note: School of Music, Theatre & Dance is not part of the Early Action program.

Are only Michigan residents considered for the scholarship?

No. The scholarship may be awarded to non-residents, including foreign students.

Will transfer students be considered for the scholarship?

No. The four-year scholarship is only for incoming freshmen.

Is there a separate application for the Stamps Scholarship?

No. Decisions are based on the materials in a student’s Common Application.

What are some important dates regarding the Stamps Scholarship?

  • November 1: Deadline for Early Action
  • Late January: Nominees notified
  • Early February: Nominees interviewed
  • Mid-February: Recipients selected and notified
  • Mid-March: Stamps Recruitment Weekend
  • Mid-March: Recruitment Weekend – attendance is mandatory. If a student does not attend the entire weekend, the scholarship will not be awarded.
