"How has being admitted to Michigan and receiving the Brehm Scholarship helped you reach your goals?"

“Being admitted to UM Medical School is a wonderful accomplishment. But, what ultimately matters to me is what I will do with my medical education. Having the support of Mr. Brehm helps me reach my goal of becoming well-trained physician. More importantly, it inspires me to emulate Mr. Brehm in using my resources and experiences to become an effective agent of change in the world around me."

"If you could tell Fordson seniors just one thing about U-M or Ann Arbor, what would it be?"

“Apply! U-M has already shattered all expectations I had of what college life would be, and I cannot wait to get started. Pursue your dreams, let no one hinder your self-belief, and remember, the beauty of dreaming is not in imagining what you could do or become, but in seeing your dreams materialize before you. GO BLUE!"

"How has being admitted to Michigan and receiving the Brehm Scholarship helped you reach your goals?"

“From the University of Michigan, I expect to meet diverse, learned peoples of various cultures and backgrounds. I anticipate experiencing the world on one single campus—a beautiful one at that—all the while, becoming more educated about literature, scientific research, and mathematics. The Brehm scholarship will allow me to pursue these interests more deeply, as, without financial burdens, I will be in turn relieved of financial obligations and can instead discover and create. Though unsure of my field of study, I am certain my future is remarkable as the scholarship grants two great gifts: knowledge and time."

Ranging from the unforgettable sports events to the countless number of organizations to choose from, there are so many options. "Why Michigan"

“I chose Michigan because of the people at Michigan. Every single person I have met at UM has taught me a very valuable lesson. I feel I can relate to everyone and everyone can relate to me. There is a sense of belonging that I only experience at UM. I want to be a pediatrician. I believe that is where I can make the most difference in someone's life. I also believe that is where the most urgent need is on a global scale."

Marwa Ayyash

"How has being admitted to UM and receiving a Brehm Scholarship helped you in your desire to achieve your goals?"

“As a medical student, being relieved from the loans is something I am forever grateful for. Moreover, knowing that the world has selfless people such as the Brehms - people who believe in me and are willing to invest in my education, is truly humbling. I realize how privileged I am to receive this scholarship and I know that the best way to continue the Brehm's legacy is through paying it forward. I do so currently through community service and volunteering. In the future, I most definitely plan to provide the gift of education to other students through establishing a scholarship.”

Oday Dabaja

Fordson ’11, U-M ’16

"What classes are you really looking forward to taking?"

“The classes that I am really looking forward to taking are English literature courses. A good story can evoke an abundance of feelings in a reader and transport them to a world that could be all too familiar, or one ridden with uncharted territory. I hope to revisit/discover these worlds through the courses here at the University of Michigan. And after I study to become a teacher and graduate, I will be eager to share these stories and many more with my students. 'Yet, by your gracious patience, I will a round unvarnished tale deliver of my whole course of love.'”

Zeinab Moussa

Fordson ’11, U-M ’15

"Who’s the best professor you’ve had so far?"

“My favorite professor so far at Michigan is David Medeiros, my English instructor. Some professors teach by telling, however, professor Medeiros is different. He educates with enthusiasm, and his enthusiasm spreads throughout the classroom. He has definitely helped me with my adjustment to college life, both academically and socially. If I ever write a book, I would definitely dedicate it to him.”

Jaleel Salhi

Fordson ’11, U-M ’15

"How has U-M changed the way you think?"

“The main way my thinking has been changed, and I think this applies to nearly everybody who goes to college, is that the liberal atmosphere gives you a more open-minded attitude, it makes you more receptive to other people’s ideas, and it gives you this great desire to just want to know everything about the people around you, what they think, why, how…the inspired questions are endless!”

"What advice do you have for Fordson high school students who wish to be selected for the Brehm Scholarship?"

“Anyone who wishes to be selected for such a prestigious scholarship must first and foremost keep their grades at a high level and achieve high test scores. This includes challenging yourself in class selection by taking classes such as an AP class. However, it does not stop there. Community involvement and leadership are also very important. Being a member of an organization is not enough, one must be a leader in these clubs. Community service is crucial as well. Achieve all these goals and you will hopefully be a prime candidate for the Brehm Scholarship!”

Mahdi Cherri

Fordson ’12, U-M

"How has being admitted to U-M and receiving the Brehm Scholarship helped you reach your goals?"

“For many, the gap between a person and their goals can be so big, but with some motivation and a “push”, they can find themselves where they want to be. The Brehm Scholarship has opened these doors for many students in the past, and will also for many in the future. I am thankful to be one of those students myself. The Brehm Scholarship has motivated me to reach beyond my goals, and for that I am very grateful. I aspire to someday work in the field of psychology and mental health. I feel that this certain area is overlooked in our societies where young boys and girls with mental health problems are not given the attention and outreach that they need, especially since these illnesses are not directly apparent.”

Manal Saad

Fordson ’12, U-M ’16

"Why Michigan?"

“I have visited the University of Michigan several times and each and every time, I left the campus in awe of its beauty. The diversity of its student body is unlike any other and I just fell in love with the overall atmosphere of the campus. Attending U-M would be the best of both worlds, enabling me to study at one of the top academic universities in the country while still remaining near my home and community.”

Mohamed-Ali Sareini

Fordson ’12, U-M ’16

"How has being admitted to U-M and receiving the Brehm Scholarship helped you reach your goals?"

“Having been admitted into University of Michigan and receiving the Brehm Scholarship helped me reach my goals through developing one skill: self-discipline. Ever since I was a child, I have been in love with Michigan. From experiencing the size of the Big House to owning a whole wardrobe of Michigan apparel, I knew there was only one place I would eventually go to school. My heart was set when I heard about the scholarship as a freshman. I also knew that nothing would come easy.

“The Brehm Scholarship kept me on track; it was the drive that kicked in when it was about 4am and I needed to finish an essay, the influence that kept me home Friday nights to study when all my friends would go to the movies, and the support I needed when I received a test score I wasn’t satisfied with. Sacrifices were made day and night, teaching me how to prioritize the important things in life. I was hoping that all the hard work would mean something in the end, and my hopes were definitely kept alive. The University of Michigan and the Brehm Scholarship built me to become a leader, a scholar, and above all, A WOLVERINE!”

Ali Wazne

Fordson ’12, U-M ’17

"Why Michigan?"

“Michigan combines the best of both worlds—a prestigious campus experience, while remaining close enough to home. When I first visited campus, I immediately fell in love with it! The atmosphere, the collaboration of students, and the energy was perfectly suited for me. It’s so comfortable here that I feel like I have two homes—Dearborn and Ann Arbor. Why not Michigan?"
